Description
Childhood OCD and Anxiety: Hank the Hungry Monster
Hank the Hungry Monster was written to raise awareness of childhood OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder).
Written by a mum, Hank the Hungry Monster is the first book in the Mind Monsters series and aims to help parents and children identify early signs of childhood OCD and develop strategies to manage OCD.
In this story, OCD is depicted as Hank, a hungry monster who moves into the minds of anxious children.
The obsessions and compulsions side of the condition are portrayed as a game that Hank likes to play.
The OCD trigger in this story (bullying) leads to the main character, Annabelle, developing contamination OCD.
The story concludes with Hank moving out of his current home to look for a new one after Annabelle learns to outwit Hank by speaking up to OCD.
50% of profits made from the book will be donated to CAMHS (child and adolescent mental health services).
